Vinai Kumar Saxena: New L-G of Delhi

On 23rd May 2022, President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Vinai Kumar Saxena as Delhi’s new Lieutenant Governor. Before being appointed as the LG of Delhi, he served as the chairperson of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission.

What is the career profile of Vinai Kumar Saxena?

  • On 5th March 2021, he was appointed by the Central government as one of the Members of the National Committee that was formed to commemorate the country’s 75th Independence Anniversary.
  • In November 2020, the central government nominated him as a Member of the high-powered Padma Awards selection committee that was to be given in the year 2021.
  • On 9th September 2020, he was selected as a member of the “Research Council” of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) – Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology.
  • On 18th March 2019, he was nominated as a “Member of University Court” of Jawaharlal Nehru University for a period of three years by the President of India.
  • From 2016 to 2020, he has been nominated annually by the PM as a Member of the ‘Empowered Committee’ for the evaluation of the “Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration.”
  • He had also worked with the JK Group for 11 years and was selected as its General Manager to look after the Port Project, Gujarat.

Who will he replace in this post?

Anil Baijal will be replaced by Saxena for this post. Baijal resigned from this post last week.
