Vimarsh-2023

A national hackathon named “Vimarsh-2023” has been unveiled with the goal of identifying innovative tools to ensure the secure utilization of 5G technology by law enforcement agencies during sensitive operations. The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) initiated the hackathon, which is a significant step towards enhancing the capabilities of police forces.

Objectives of the Hackathon

The primary objective of the hackathon is to develop innovative tools that address the challenges and issues confronted by law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in adapting to and utilizing 5G technology effectively.

Collaboration and Problem Statements

Nine specific problem statements have been formulated for the hackathon, and the Department of Telecom (DOT) and its subsidiary Telecom Centre of Excellence (TCOE) have collaborated with BPRD to organize this event. The hackathon encourages participation from students, startups, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the pursuit of solutions.

Understanding a Hackathon

A hackathon is an event that brings together computer programmers, coders, and technology enthusiasts to collaboratively develop new software programs or solutions to address predefined challenges.

Three Stages of Screening

The hackathon will involve three stages of idea screening. Stages I and II will be conducted in a virtual mode, while Stage III will take place at designated nodal centers in a physical setting, where 5G testbeds, private networks, and labs will be accessible.

Awards and Funding

Winners of each problem statement will be awarded a prize of Rs 1.5 lakh during the concluding ceremony scheduled for February next year. Additionally, the government has allocated Rs 2.5 lakh for further development and productization of winning ideas and proof of concepts, leading to additional funding for the creation of practical tools and solutions for law enforcement agencies.
