Vigilance Awareness Week
Every year India celebrates Vigilance Awareness Week in the months of October – November. The week is celebrated in the birthday of Sardar Vallabhai Patel (Bismarck of India or The Iron Man of India). He was born on October 31. It is mainly celebrated by Central Vigilance Commission and also by other organisations.
About Vigilance Awareness Week
The idea of Vigilance Awareness Week was first introduced in 2000. It is important to celebrate the week as according to Transparency International, India had the highest bribery rate in Asia in 2020. The bribery in public services is still plaguing the country. Citizens seek bribery routes due to slow and complicated bureaucratic processes, unclear regulatory frameworks and unnecessary red tapes. India stood at 86th rank in Corruption Perception Index in 2020.
Vigilance Awareness Week, 2021
In 2021, the Vigilance Awareness Week is celebrated between October 26 and November 1. In 2021, the week is celebrated on the following theme:
Theme: Independent India @ 75: Self Reliance and Integrity
This theme was proposed by the Central Vigilance Commission. The theme was selected to mark 75 years of Indian independence and also to promote “Atma Bharat” vision of the central government.
