Vice President calls for 100 percent Literacy in India
The Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the Centenary celebrations of National College at Tiruchirappalli in the state of Tamil Nadu on Friday, 10th January 2020 and called for to make India 100 percent literate in the near future for which the Vice President said collective efforts from all stakeholders is required to achieve the target of 100 percent literacy in the country by stepping up the pace of literacy campaigns as at present even after 70 years of Independence, about 18-20% citizens of India are still illiterate.
The Vice President also expressed concerns that none of the premier Universities from India could make it into the top 300 rankings of the global list of institutions in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020. The Vice President also pointed out that for ensuring fast track development, social justice and equal opportunities for all, education is the key and urged big business across the country to come forward in strengthening the educational institutions across the country.
