US Space Force’s First National Security Mission

The US Space Force launched its first National Security Mission from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The launch was closed for public viewing due to the ongoing pandemic situation.

About the Launch

The US Space Force launched an Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) satellite into space on board the United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket as part of its first National Security Mission. The satellite was launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida after initial glitches.

AEHF

AEHF or Advanced Extremely High Frequency project is a series of 6 communication satellite used by the US Space Force. These satellites are meant to ‘provide global, survivable, protected communications capabilities for strategic command and tactical warfighters operating on ground, sea and air platforms’. The recent launch is the last in the series of AEHF satellites.

The US Space Force is a branch of the US armed forces that was established in December of 2019. It is the space warfare service branch and one of the 8 uniformed services of the country. It functions under the country’s Department of Air Force.
