US celebrates Juneteenth to mark the end of slavery
The United States marks the end of slavery within the country by observing Juneteenth (19th June). This day is celebrated with the annual unofficial holiday. This year, the day has more significance as millions of Americans confront the nation’s continued racial discrimination. This was the day when Union Army General Gordon Granger, in 1865, announced that all slaves in Texas were free.
