On partition, maximum Jute mills remained in India while major Jute producing area went to East Pakistan (Now Bangladesh). This created problems for India in terms of Shortage of Raw Material. Other associated problems are:
Obsolete Mills and Machinery– The mills and machinery in Jute sector are obsolete and need technology upgradation. Due to lack in technology upgradation; Indian jute industries are unable to face stiff competition from other jute producing countries like Japan, Philippines, and South Korea etc.
Decrease in the Demand-Increase in plastic, synthetic fibres and similar substitute products are reasons to decreasing demand for Jute products.
