What are some of the key features of the Vande Bharat 2.0 train? How would it improve India’s railways?

The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) at Perambur, Chennai, planned and produced the Train18, subsequently known as the Vande Bharat Express, over the course of 18 months as part of the Indian government’s Make in India programme. This train’s second generation was recently unveiled.

Key features:

  • Advanced, cutting-edge safety measures, such as the indigenously designed Train Collision Avoidance System known as Kavach technology.
  • By doing away with the power cars and utilizing an innovative regenerative braking system, the train has been created to enhance Indian Railways’ environmental impact.
  • It has more modern amenities and innovations, like Wi-Fi content on demand, a 0 to 100 Kmph speed of 52 seconds, a top speed of 180 Kmph, and a lighter weight of 392 tonnes as opposed to 430 tonnes.
  • Travel will be more comfortable with 15% more energy efficient ACs and dust-free clean air cooling.
  • All classes will now have access to the side reclining seat feature that is now only offered to Executive Class guests.
  • The photo-catalytic ultraviolet air purification technology is fitted in the roof-mounted Roof Mounted Package Unit (RMPU) for air purification in the new Vande Bharat Express design.

Way forward:

With the exception of a few small components, the majority of the trains’ parts are “Made in India.” The Vande Bharat Express is a modern train that is revolutionizing passenger transport in India. It is the Indian Railways’ next big step forward in terms of speed and customer convenience after the introduction of Rajdhani trains.
