Has the two-pronged policy of direct action by the security forces coupled with development to tackle Maoism problem been successful? To what extent? Discuss critically.

India always perceived Left wing extremism as an internal security threat with their increased capabilities to kill, attack and massacre. It came up with different models to handle the situation throughout the years. Maoist continues to remain the dominant and the most violent outfit among the left wing extremists. They account to the major portion of left wing extremists’ incidents and remain responsible to most of the resultant killings.
The government’s response to this has changed in the course of time. Now, instead of being reactive, the government is being proactive. It has also changed its stand from a localised approach to a holistic approach.
The recognition of Maoist intense areas as districts and implementing development projects in the districts as a proactive measure is helping in decreasing the concentration of Maoists. This further aids as Maoists lose ground. Setting up of new police stations and security camps with Coordinated proactive policing is abetting in reducing the number of Maoist attacks.
The government is looking for a permanent solution rather than a temporary fix. Increasing the political and administrative access by building roads and communication towers, establishing banks for financial inclusion, propagation through radio, etc. have been beneficial. Educating the tribes in collaboration with united nations is a laudable initiative.
Thus the two pronged approach by the forces and the development measures by the government have been proven largely successful to check the expansion of the Maoists.
