"Genetic sequencing is the future of medicine."Evaluate.
Genetic Sequencing includes DNA sequencing as well as whole genome sequencing (WGS). While DNA sequencing technique is used to determine the nucleotide sequence of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), whole genome sequencing is the process of determining the complete DNA sequence of an organism’s genome at a single time. In recent years, development in biosciences combined with big data analysis has fostered genetic sequencing technology and has revolutionized medicine.
Genetic sequencing technology can be called as the future of medicine due to following reasons:
Firstly, the technology acts as a tool for examining rare disorders and identifying therapeutic targets. Secondly, it enables humans to change the genetic code and replace disease genes embedded in it. Thirdly, it is used for correcting genetic deficiencies for diseases such as cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer. Fourthly, the data obtained through genetic sequencing can be easily stored in digital form. Fifthly, it allows detection of childhood disorders such as learning disabilities. Besides, the technology also has the potential to reveal information about autosomal recessive disorders, and other predictive medical and non-medical information that is currently not completely understood.
