Assess the reasons why global warming is seen as such a serious problem for the world's future. To what extent do you think it is the twenty-first century's major problem?
The warming of the earth’s atmosphere due to greenhouse gases is known as global warming. The gases such as increasing carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), methane etc. contributed to the increase of the temperature if earth’s atmosphere. These were produced by burning of fossil fuels and released during industrial processes. These gases acted like glass roof of the greenhouse, which trapped the heat of the sun and even magnified it.
The effect of global warming can be seen as the ozone hole created over Antarctica rising sea levels due to melting of ice in Polar Regions. The melting of ice caps that result in rise of sea level poses the danger of flooding of large areas of land. The increasing temperature will raise the temperature in the African and Asian regions making the regions too hot for the people to live in. Prolonged drought will be a common phenomenon. Due to this reasons global warming is a major problem in the 21st century. If it is not controlled, there will be loss of life resulting due to worsening climatic conditions that is created due to global warming.
