United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes launches series under Education for Justice initiative
On April 22, 2020, the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crimes launched online dialogues with students and educators on COVID-19.
Highlights
The organization has launched “Lockdown Learners’ Series” under Education for Justice Initiative. The series aims to sensitize students on the issues such as misinformation, cybercrime, gender-based violence, corruption among others.
Background
Due to lock down in India, schools have been closed. This has brought the academic sessions of 2020 to a halt. GoI has ordered the schools to promote all students till Class VIII without annual exams. Hence, these initiatives like Education for Justice will act as a common platform for both teachers and students.
Education for Justice
The Education for Justice initiative was launched by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes to teach next generation about crime prevention and address problems under law.
Need
There are more than 1.52 billion youth and children out of school in the current situation. This is 87% of the student population all over the world. Around 60.2 million teachers are not in class rooms.
