Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal for 2019

Teams of Delhi Police Special Cell and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were awarded Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal for 2019. A 25-member team of Odisha Police has also been awarded the medal, along with the others.

Key Highlights

The Delhi Police Special Cell received the honour for thwarting a terror strike by two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists, Abdul Latif Ganai and Hilal Ahmad in January 2019. The JeM members were planning an attack in the national capital during the 2019 Republic Day celebrations.

16-member team of border guarding force ITBP was also given the honour for successful Nanda Devi Search and Rescue Mission. This mission involved the successful retrieval of 7 dead bodies near Nanda Devi in Pithoragarh after a 500 hours operation.

About Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal

The prestigious Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal was instituted in June 2018. It aims to promote high professional standards of Investigation of Crime in State and Union Territory Police and Central Investigating Agencies (CIAs) in India.

Eligibility: Police Officers of States and Union Territories (UTs), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Central Police Organisations (CPOs) and security organisations involved in special operations are eligible for the medal.
