Union Health Secretary Releases Health Dynamics Report 2022-23

Union Health Secretary Shri Apurva Chandra released a report called the “Health Dynamics of India (Infrastructure and Human Resources) 2022-23.” This report, which used to be called “Rural Health Statistics,” has been published every year since 1992. It provides important data about India’s National Health Mission (NHM), helping leaders make better healthcare decisions.

The report gives detailed information about the number of healthcare workers and the condition of healthcare facilities across India. This information helps the government and other health organizations understand where improvements are needed. It helps in shaping policies and strategies to improve healthcare services.

Content Structure

The report has two main sections:

Part 1: This gives an overall view of India’s healthcare system, including information about the healthcare situation in each state and union territory. It also uses pictures and charts to make the data easy to understand.

Part 2: This part is more detailed and divided into nine sections. It covers important data like the number of health facilities, the healthcare workforce, and other health indicators.

Key data from the report

On March 31, 2023, the report gives a clear picture of India’s healthcare system:

  • There are 1,69,615 Sub-Centres (SCs).
  • 31,882 Primary Health Centres (PHCs).
  • 6,359 Community Health Centres (CHCs).
  • 1,340 District Hospitals (DHs).

The healthcare system is supported by 2,39,911 health workers, 40,583 medical officers, and many nurses and paramedics.

Shri Apurva Chandra mentioned the need to improve the system for collecting health data. He suggested linking the Health Management Information System (HMIS) with other systems to make it easier for health workers to upload and analyze data.
