Union Cabinet approved MoUs signed between India and Bhutan

On June 3, 2020, the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi approved the Memorandum of Understanding signed between India and Bhutan. The agreement between the countries was signed to improve cooperation in the field of environment.

Highlights

The agreement will help to promote long term cooperation between India and Bhutan. Also, it will help to protect and manage natural resources based on reciprocity, equity and mutual benefits. The countries according to the agreement also agreed to extend their cooperation in the field of air waste, climate change and chemical management.

The agreement signed stay effective for a period of 10 years. It encourages private companies, organizations, government institutions in Bhutan and India to establish cooperation activities.

About the Agreement

The agreement was signed between the National Environment Commission of Bhutan and Central Pollution Control Board operating under Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in 2013. The countries agreed to continue their cooperation in the field of environment.
