The World Trade Organization (wto) is an international organization designed by its founders to supervise and liberalize international trade. The organization officially commenced on 1 January 1995, under the Marrakech Agreement, succeeding the 1947 General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). It was signed in Marrakech, Morocco on 15th April 1994, establishing the WTO which officially came into being on January 1, 1995.
