UK’s New Women and Girls Strategy

On International Women’s Day 2023, the UK launched its new Women and Girls Strategy 2023-2030, which aims to promote gender equality globally. The strategy has a specific focus on empowering women and girls, championing their health and rights, and increasing education opportunities for girls.

Bilateral Aid Programmes

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has committed to dedicating over 80% of its bilateral aid programmes towards gender equality by 2030. This means that the UK government will prioritize funding projects that directly benefit women and girls, with the goal of achieving gender equality by the end of the decade.

Combatting Gender-Based Violence

Gender-based violence is a global issue that affects millions of women and girls. The UK’s new strategy aims to combat this issue by increasing support for women’s rights organizations and movements. The government plans to develop a new research offer to help make investment decisions, which will help to identify the most effective ways to combat gender-based violence.

Empowering Women and Girls

Empowering women and girls is a critical component of the UK’s Women and Girls Strategy. The government aims to do this by increasing access to education, promoting economic empowerment, and providing healthcare services. By empowering women and girls, the UK hopes to create a world where gender equality is the norm.

Championing Health and Rights

The UK government believes that access to healthcare services and the protection of human rights are fundamental to promoting gender equality. As part of its new Women and Girls Strategy, the government plans to champion the health and rights of women and girls by increasing access to reproductive health services and promoting sexual and reproductive rights.

Increasing Education Opportunities for Girls

The UK’s Women and Girls Strategy also aims to increase education opportunities for girls. Education is critical to ensuring that girls have the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in life. The government plans to do this by investing in projects that promote girls’ education, including providing scholarships and building schools in areas where access to education is limited.
