UAE Becomes the First Arab Nation to Launch Mars Mission

The United Arab Emirates has become the first-ever Arab country to launch the Mars Mission when the blast-off of the unmanned spacecraft took place from Tanegashima Space Center on July 20. The project was handled from the command and control centre at Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre.

Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, was decorated and it was lit up hours before the launch with a symbolic 10-second countdown in anticipation of the launch that had to be delayed due to weather conditions this month.

The Mars Mission is expected to reach the orbit of the planet by February 2021, which will also mark the 50th anniversary of the unification of the UAE.

The main objective of the mission is to provide a comprehensive image of the weather dynamics in the atmosphere of Mars and lead the way for a scientific breakthrough but the UAE government also wants this project to act as a source of inspiration for the Arab Youths.

Named as ‘Hope’, it belongs to the millions of young people in the region who look forward to progress, inspiration and opportunity and it also poses a direct challenge to the people who want to suppress the aspirations of people in the country.
