UAE announces two-month amnesty to illegal residents to leave the country, includes 45,000 Indians
United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced two-month amnesty to illegal residents to either leave the country without penalty or regularize their visas. The amnesty will end on February 3. The gulf country has around 45,000 Indians staying illegally. To tackle this urgency Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi has requested states to arrange for free air tickets for those in need and who cannot afford the cost of travel.
As per the UAE government, the amnesty will apply only to those who have overstayed their visit or resident visas in the UAE and not infiltrators, who would be dealt like criminals.
