U.P’s New Revenue villages
On January 9, 2022, Uttar Pradesh government declared four villages across the Nepal border in the Bahraich district as revenue villages.
Highlights
- The four villages are Bhavanipur, Tedhia, Dhakia and Bichhia.
- They are located in Mihinpurwa tehsil of the Bahraich district.
- All these villages are Vantangiya villages.
Vantangiya Community
The Vantangiya community consists of people, who were brought from Myanmar to plant trees, during the colonial rule.
What is a revenue village?
A revenue village is a small administrative region, having defined borders. One revenue village may comprise of many hamlets. It is a geographic area comprising many Tehsils, which in turn cover villages. The Revenue Divisional Officer exercises some fiscal and administrative powers over its jurisdiction. It is headed by a Revenue Divisional Officer.
How is this decision significant?
With this decision, people of these villages will now get the benefits of all the government schemes.
How many districts of UP share border with Nepal?
Total of seven districts in UP share border with Nepal. These districts are- Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Bahraich, Kheri, Balrampur, Shravasti, Maharajganj and Siddharthanagar. The border is under the jurisdiction of Central Police force SSB.
About Bahraich
Bahraich is situated in North eastern part of Devipatan Division. The district shares an international border with Nepal on Northern part. Within UP, it shares borders with “Barabanki & Sitapur to the South, Khiri to the West and Gonda & Shrawasti to the east. Northern part of the Bahraich is Tarai region which is covered by dense natural forest. Main forest areas of the districts are Sujauli, Chakia, Mihinpurwa, Nishangara, and Bichia & Baghauli. Major rivers of the district are Sarayu and Ghaghra.
The Sarayu River
Sarayu River originates to the south of Nanda Kot Mountain in Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand. It flows through towns like Kapkot, Bageshwar, and Seraghat and discharge into Sharda River at Pancheshwar at India—Nepal border. Sharda river then joins the Ghaghara River in Sitapur District of UP. Lower Ghaghara is also popularly known as Sarayu River in India.
