Tulsa Race Massacre
The Tulsa Race Massacre is an infamous racial violence that took place in Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The incident, which took place in 1921, involved mobs of white residents attacking the residents of Greenwood – a Black-dominated area that cropped up at the beginning of twentieth century on the northern side of Tulsa. It is one of the most horrendous and deadly racial violence in the American history.
While hundreds of blacks were indiscriminately shot dead, no compensation was provided for their families and the others who were injured or lost their properties. A law suit still remains pending in this regard. US President Joe Biden is to visit the city of Tulsa to mark the 100th anniversary of this incident.
