Tucuxi dolphin
The Tucuxi dolphins living in the Amazon River and its tributaries are among the most vulnerable in the world. They are also found in Colombia’s Caqueta, Apaporis and Putumayo rivers. They were classified as “endangered” by the International union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) just recently. They are at risk from fishing net accidents, mercury contamination caused by illegal gold mining and the loss of river connectivity due to hydroelectric plants.
