Tribal Affairs Minister launched Tertiary processing centres under ‘TRIFOOD’ project

Two new tertiary processing centers have been launched by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in Maharashtra and Chattisgarh with the aim of increasing the value addition to the non-timber forest products collected by tribal forest gatherers.

The Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda launched the centers virtually under the “TRIFOOD” project, that will be implemented jointly by TRIFED and Ministry of Food Processing.

What is TRIFED?

The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) is the apex organization under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. It acts as a nodal agency at the National Level to promote and sell the Minor Forest Product and Surplus Agriculture Product, collected/cultivated by tribals.

What is the TRIFOOD project?

The project is implemented by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India, Ministry of Tribal Affairs in association with the Ministry of Food Processing. The project aims at enhancing the income of tribal people.
