Tragic Plane Crash in South Korea

A devastating plane crash occurred in South Korea, resulting in the loss of 177 lives out of 181 individuals on board. The incident involved a Jeju Air flight that was en route from Bangkok to Muan International Airport. The crash took place approximately 290 kilometers south of Seoul during the landing phase.

Incident Details

The aircraft involved was a Boeing 737-800, carrying 175 passengers and six crew members. The crash happened as the plane attempted to land at Muan International Airport. Eyewitness reports indicate that the plane veered off the runway, collided with a wall, and subsequently caught fire.

Casualties and Survivors

Out of the 181 people on board, only two crew members survived the crash. Tragically, 177 individuals lost their lives, and currently, two people remain unaccounted for. Authorities have confirmed the identification of 22 victims so far.

Rescue Operations

The South Korean fire agency has launched an extensive rescue operation, which is still ongoing. Over 700 personnel are involved in the response efforts, including police, military, and coast guard members. The scale of the operation marks the urgency and seriousness of the situation.

Choi Sang-mok, South Korea’s acting president, visited the crash site. He has directed responders to utilise all available equipment and personnel to aid in the rescue and recovery efforts. His presence puts stress on the government’s commitment to addressing the crisis.

Flight Cancellations

In light of the tragic incident, the Korea Airports Corporation has confirmed that all flights to Muan International Airport have been cancelled. This decision aims to ensure safety and facilitate ongoing rescue operations at the site of the crash.
