Lala Lajpat Rai
Lala Lajpat Rai’s birth anniversary is observed on January 28. Born in 1865 at a village called Dhudike in Punjab, he became one of the key players in India’s struggle for independence from the British colonialism. He led a silent protest march against the Simon Commission in 1928, authored several books and established Punjab National Bank and Laxmi Insurance Company in 1894. Postage stamps and commemorative Rs.150 coin was issued by the government in his honour.
