- Parliament passes the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019

- The Bill seeks to provide Indian citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian refugees coming from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan after facing religious persecution there.
- Those who have migrated to India before December 31, 2014 are eligible.
- The Bill shall not apply to: 1. Tribal areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura 2. States that are protected by the Inner Line Permit (ILP) — Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland
