Epidemic Diseases (Amendment) Bill, 2020 passed in Rajya Sabha
The amendment Bill makes changes to the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 to include protections for healthcare workers combating epidemic diseases. It also expands the Centre’s powers to prevent the spread of the infectious diseases.
3 Bills introduced at the Lower House for labour welfare
Union Labour and Employment Minister introduced 3 Bills at the Lok Sabha to improve working conditions of workers and protect their interests at the paces of work. These Bills include Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, Industrial Relations Code and Code of Social Security.
West Bengal to map lesser known religious institutions for conservation purposes
The information and cultural affairs department’s decision to conserve all lesser known and forgotten religious institutions comes under two programmes – ‘Maha Tirtha Bhumi’ (Great Pilgrimage Land) and ‘Maha Punnya Bhumi’ (Great Sacred Land).
NITI Aayog, ISPP collaborate for government officials’ capacity building
NITI Aayog’s Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office and the Indian School of Public Policy
(ISPP) have signed the statement of intent for training, mentoring and capacity building of government officials and public policy scholars.
8 advanced technology centres set up for research on futuristic military applications
The DRDO has established 8 advanced technology centres for researching identified futuristic or new technology areas. Currently, the organisation has 50 labs across the country for defence sector’s technological development.
India’s external debt at $558.5 billion by the end of March
According to a Finance Ministry report, this 2.8% increase mainly due to the rise in commercial borrowing. The external debt stood at $543 billion at March-end last year.
India, Bangladesh to resume joint patrolling to curb border crime
During the 50th DG level conference of the border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh, both sides agreed to resume the joint coordinated border patrolling to reduce smuggling of cattle, weapons and narcotics.
