TIFAC to come up with COVID-19 revival strategy

A team of scientists from Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) is to prepare a revival strategy to help in the growth of Indian Economy post COVID-19 lock down.

Highlights

The strategy is to strengthen Make in India initiative, develop technology driven transparent Public Distribution System, reduce imports, efficient rural health care delivery, adoption of emerging technologies such as Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, etc. The strategy will also aim to commercialize indigenous technologies.

Need

The major concern of Government of India is labour shortage that is to occur for more than 6 months after lock down. The Government is also expecting 40 million job losses. Almost every sector namely trade, transport, manufacturing, tourism, health care, education are to be hit.

TIFAC

TIFAC is Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council. It is an autonomous organization that was established in 1988. It operates under Department of Science and Technology.

The Technology Vision 2035 released by PM Modi at the 103rd Science Congress was prepared by TIFAC.
