The TIFAC is to come up with a white paper on strategizing the revival of the Indian economy after the COVID-19 pandemic runs its course.

Key Focus of the White Paper

The think tank is to come up with strategies for reviving the Indian economy after the COVID-19 crisis. It is to focus on:

  • Strengthening initiatives under Make in India,
  • Commercialization of indigenous technology,
  • Developing a technology-fuelled PDS (public distribution system), etc.

About TIFAC

TIFAC or Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council is an autonomous technology think tank. It functions under the Department of Science and Technology. It was formed as per the recommendations of Technology Policy Implementation Committee in 1988.

TIFAC’s Mandate

  • Preparation of technology impact reports on existing and new technologies.
  • To obtain and project estimates of nature and quantum of likely demands of goods and services in various sectors and accordingly suggest technological changes needed to fulfil these demands.
  • Ensure timely availability of technologies needed for the country.
  • Reduce time gap between development and utilization of new technology
  • Set up Information Collection, Analysis and Programming groups to fulfil its objectives, etc.
