Third Round Table Conference November 1932
Third Round Table Conference was last among the three such conferences organized between 1930 and 1932 by British government towards constitutional reforms in India. These conferences were conducted as per 1930 report of Simon Commission.
First and Second Round Conference
The First Round Table Conference was conducted between November 1930 and January 1931. This conference was attedned by 74 delegates from India but neither Indian National Congress nor any prominent political or business leaders from India participated in it because most of them were lodged into jails. Second Round Table Conference was held between September and December 1931. In this conference, INC took part and Mahatma Gandhi was apointed as sole representative of Indian National Congress. A pact between Gandhi and Viceroy Lord Irwin was reached, which was known as Gandhi-Irwin Pact.
Third Round Conference
Third Round Table Conference was held in London on November 17, 1932. This was just a nominal conference, Congress refused to attend it (not invited, in fact) and in Britain, the Labor party also refused to not to attend it. So, only 46 people reached out there. The key outcome of the Third Round Table conference was the “White Paper” issued by the Government. On the basis of this paper, the Government of India Act 1935 was to be passed.
In this conference, a college student Chaudhary Rahmat Ali proposed the name of the new land specially carved out from India for the Muslims. The name of this “holy” land was – Pakistan. Muslim leaders who attended the conference were Muhammad Ali, Agha Khan, Fazlul Haq, Jinnah.
