The world famous Velankanni our lady of health basilica annual feast has started on August 29, 2016 at Vellankan shrine, near Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu. In the 10-day long festival, lakhs of devotees are expected to throng the shrine. Velankanni attracts millions of people throughout the year. It was some 550 years ago, the Our Lady appeared with the infant Jesus in her arms to a poor and innocent boy who was carrying milk to Nagapattinam. Ever since, millions of people irrespective of their caste, creed, colour and nationality visit the shrine and pray.
