Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana
Coal India Limited (CIL) has been supporting the Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana (TBSY) initiative as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Recently, the third phase of the TBSY was launched to commemorate World Thalassemia Day. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare launched the third phase of TBSY, and the Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana Portal, in the presence of several dignitaries, including the Union Health Secretary and Secretary of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Understanding Thalassemia
Thalassemia is a hereditary blood disorder that causes the body to have lower levels of hemoglobin than normal. Since 2017, the Union Health Ministry has been implementing the TBSY under the National Health Mission (NHM), and the initiative had recently completed its second phase in March 2023.
CIL’s CSR-Funded Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Program
CIL’s Corporate Social Responsibility-funded Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) program is an exceptional effort directed towards offering an exclusive opportunity to cure underprivileged Thalassemia patients, who have a suitable donor among siblings but lack the financial resources to pay for the procedure. During the two phases of the program, it has successfully completed 356 bone marrow transplants for Thalassemia patients across 10 empanelled hospitals in India.
Third Phase of TBSY Initiative
The objective of the third phase of the TBSY initiative is to offer monetary aid of 10 lakhs per HSCT package, which will be directly transferred to the hospitals performing the HSCT by CIL. The program will benefit underprivileged thalassemia patients and those with aplastic anemia, a condition that can be life-threatening without treatment. The program has empaneled 10 reputed hospitals across India, including AIIMS, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and others.
Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana Portal
CIL has created the Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana Portal to empower online applications for the TBSY initiative. Through the portal, patients can track their application’s progress in real-time, from registration to closure.
Contribution to a Healthier and More Equitable Society
The Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana initiative serves as a remarkable illustration of an effective Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative that is truly transforming the lives of Thalassemia patients and their families. The third phase of the scheme is expected to continue bringing hope and relief to Thalassemia patients and their families while contributing towards building a healthier and more equitable society.
