Telecom operators slash roaming call rate by up to 40%, SMS by up to 75%
Leading Indian telecom operators including Vodafone, Airtel, Idea and Reliance Communication have slashed their roaming call rates by up to 40 per cent and SMS rates by upto 75 percent.
This rate revision of telecom operators comes in line with Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) decision to cut maximum or ceiling rate for national roaming calls and SMSes.
As per new ceiling rate operators will charge maximum of Rs 1.15 per minute for STD calls on roaming compared to previous charge of Rs 1.50 per minute on roaming. Similarly, an operator can charge a maximum of 80 paise per minute for a local call instead of Re 1.
TRAI also has reduced National SMS ceiling rate from 1.50 rupees to 38 paise. Now a subscriber can be charged a maximum of 25 paise instead of 1 rupee local SMS.
In line with TRAI’s new ceiling rate Bharti Airtel has reduced its call rates by up to 40 per cent and outgoing local SMS rate by up to 75 per cent.
Similarly, Idea Cellular and Reliance Communications reduced roaming call rates by 40 per cent.
