Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations 2010
Telecom Users all over India have been eased from unwelcome commercial calls and messages. The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations 2010 was formally inaugurated by Kapil Sibal, Communications and Information Technology Minister. Here are brief notes:
- The regulations will facilitate consumers to list themselves on the National Consumer Preference Register, NCPR by merely dialling 1909 or sending an SMS to this number
- Under the new regulations, telemarketers will also have to list themselves on the NCPR website
- Heavy fines to be forced on telemarketers transferring unwelcome calls to registered customers
- TRAI’s guidelines confining the number of SMSes sent per day to 100 (Later revised to 200) by private mobile phone numbers also comes into force
- Restrictions to guard consumers from unregistered telemarketers
- But some categories are exempted from these restrictions which include transactional messsages related to banking operations, educational institutions and the like
