Telangana’s AI Advisory Council for Lifesciences

The Telangana government is set to establish an AI advisory council for the life sciences sector, which is part of a broader strategy announced during the Telangana Global AI Summit in September 2024. The council aims to enhance the integration of AI in life sciences.

Formation of the Council

The Lifesciences AI Advisory Council will be formed by January 2025 and will consist of industry experts and stakeholders. Their role will be to promote AI utilisation in the sector. This announcement was made by Telangana Industries & IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu at the ‘AI in Healthcare Summit

Consortium of Lifesciences Companies

The government has united 40 life sciences companies with global capability centres (GCCs) in Telangana. This consortium will focus on talent development and operational efficiency. It aims to strengthen the supply ecosystem and encourage collaboration among companies. Improved training for workers will also be a priority.

Major Companies Involved

Prominent companies such as Novartis, BMS, Sanofi, Amgen, and Roche have established centres in Telangana. These companies are pioneers in AI, data science, and cloud computing. The government aims to support their AI adoption and operational growth in Hyderabad.

Training and Education Initiatives

A training programme on AI and machine learning for lifesciences and healthcare is in the pipeline. This initiative will develop skilled AI engineers and specialists. Additionally, the government is planning to establish a university focused on AI education.

Research and Policy Development

Whitepapers on ‘AI Infused Pharma R&D’ and ‘Cyber Resilience in Hospitals’ were launched during the summit. The government has appointed four members to the main Telangana AI Advisory Council. This council will ensure ethical and inclusive AI development aligned with state goals.

The state is enhancing its infrastructure to support AI initiatives. Plans for an AI city in Hyderabad are underway. This city will feature advanced facilities dedicated to AI activities, encouraging innovation and growth in the sector.
