Tamil Nadu Launches ‘Neengal Nalama’ Beneficiary Outreach Programme
In March 2024, the Tamil Nadu government launched the ‘Neengal Nalama’ (Are you fine?) scheme, a beneficiary outreach programme aimed at reviewing the implementation of flagship schemes and addressing the grievances of the public. The initiative was kicked off by Minister of Rural Development I. Periyasamy with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and other ministers, senior officials, and district collectors reaching out to beneficiaries across the state.
Under the scheme people will be contacted by the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Department Heads, Department Secretaries, and District Collectors to inquire about their level of benefit and to identify any bottlenecks related to the various schemes
Web Portal and Beneficiary Interaction
As part of the ‘Neengal Nalama’ scheme, the Chief Minister opened a web portal and interacted with beneficiaries of government schemes. The initiative aims to improve government services by having ministers, senior government officials, and district collectors elicit views from beneficiaries. Using the web portal users can express their opinions regarding the welfare projects of the Tamil Nadu government
Flagship Programmes and Beneficiaries
The recent flagship programmes of Government of Tamil Nadu are as under:
1. Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam: Supporting 1.15 crore women with a monthly cash benefit of Rs. 1,000.
2. Vidiyal Payana Thittam: Enabling women to make 445 crore free bus trips so far.
3. Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam: Providing health services at the doorstep to more than a crore people.
4. Free Breakfast Scheme: Serving 16 lakh students every day across the state.
Outcome of the scheme
By directly interacting with beneficiaries and gathering their feedback, the state government seeks to improve its services and ensure that the benefits of its programmes reach the intended recipients. Despite various political challenges challenges faced by the state, with this scheme, the state has reiterated its commitment to uplifting every family in Tamil Nadu.
