Syed Kirmani conferred with 2015 Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award
Former Cricketer Syed Kirmani was honoured with the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award in Mumbai (Maharashtra) for his contribution to Indian cricket.
He was presented with the award by the President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Shashank Manohar at the BCCI’s annual award function held in Mumbai.
India’s Test captain Virat Kohli was awarded with the Polly Umrigar Trophy for Cricketer of the Year. Mitali Raj was bestowed with Best Woman Cricketer Award in senior player category for the season 2014-15.
About Syed Kirmani Kirmani
- Syed Kirmani Kirmani was one of India’s finest wicket keepers. He was a member of the Indian team that won the World Cup in 1983 for the first time.
- In his cricket career he had played 88 Tests and 49 ODIs for India.
- Test Career: He holds distinction of 198 dismissals as a wicket keeper in 88 Tests and had scored 2759 runs including two centuries, at an average of 27.04 Kirmani.
- ODI Career: He had played 49 ODIs for India and scored 373 runs.
- World Cup: The main highlight of his career was the 126-run rearguard partnership he shared with Kapil Dev in the 1983 World Cup game against Zimbabwe in Turnbridge Wells.
- He had served as chairman of the national selection committee in 2000 and also vice-president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) after retiring from cricket.
- Awards: Union Government has conferred Padma Shree award on him for his contribution to sports.
About Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award
- The award has been instituted by BCCI to celebrate the birth centenary of Col. Cottari Kanakaiya Nayudu, country’s first Test captain.
- The annual Lifetime Achievement Award honours individuals for their unparalleled contribution to Indian cricket on and off the field. Award comprises a trophy, citation and cheque for 25 lakh rupees.
