Swavlamban 2024: Indian Navy’s Innovation Seminar Begins

The Indian Navy’s Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Seminar, Swavlamban – 2024, began on October 29, 2024, in New Delhi. This is the third edition of the seminar. Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, inaugurated the event at Bharat Mandapam. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to attend on the second day.

Purpose of Swavlamban – 2024

Swavlamban – 2024 aims to encourage innovation and indigenisation within the Indian Navy. The seminar focuses on enhancing India’s defence capabilities through local resources and technology. It encourages collaboration between defence forces and the private sector.

Participation and Exhibits

Numerous companies and start-ups are showcasing their advancements at Swavlamban 2024. They are presenting niche technologies in various fields, including:

  • Air and surface surveillance
  • Autonomous systems for surface, aerial, and underwater operations
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Quantum technologies

Around 115 stalls have been set up by various agencies, denoting a range of innovative products.

Involvement of Defence Forces

The event sees participation from multiple defence entities, including the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, Indian Coast Guard, and Border Security Force. Their involvement underscores the collaborative spirit of the seminar.

Emphasis on Young Entrepreneurs

Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi praised young entrepreneurs for their role in driving innovation and research. Their contributions are vital for the future of defence technology in India.

Government Initiatives

One initiative supporting this innovation is the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) scheme. This program encourages start-ups and MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) to contribute to defence projects. Participants like Anshuman Chatterjee have praised this initiative for its impact on the defence sector.

Previous Editions and Achievements

The previous two editions of Swavlamban have been successful. The Indian Navy received over 2,000 proposals from the industry. These proposals have been transformed into 155 challenges aimed at developing prototypes. The initiative has led to collaboration with more than 200 MSMEs and start-ups.
