Swarna Jayanti Fellowships for 2018-19 awarded to 14 Scientists

The Government of India instituted the Swarna Jayanti Fellowships to commemorate the fiftieth year of India’s Independence. The scheme was instituted to provide support and assistance to young scientists with innovative research ideas having a proven track record and the potential for making an impact in the field of Research and Development.

Through a three-tier process, out of total 443 applications, 14 scientists were selected and awarded with the Swarna Jayanti Fellowship for 2018-19.  The Department of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Government of India organizes the awards and supports the awardees with all requirements in performing their research work. The fellowship provides a research grant for 5 years of Rs 5 lakh and a fellowship of Rs 25,000 per month for five years which is in addition to the salary they draw from their respective parent organizations. Since 2005-06, the fellowship has been awarded annually to young scientists from across the country.
