Swachh Bharat Awards, 2020 presented

On October 2, 2020, the Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Skekhawat presented the Swachh Bharat Awards, 2020. The awards were given under cleanliness categories and drinking water category.

Highlights

The awards were presented under three categories namely Swachh Sundar Samudayik Shouchalaya, Gandagi Mukth Bharat and Samudayik Shouchalaya Abhiyan.

The following states and blocks won first prize under Swachh Sundar Samudayik Shouchalaya category

  • Gujarat won the first prize under Swachh Sundar Samudayik Shouchalaya category at state level.
  • The Tirunelveli of Tamil Nadu got the first prize at district level
  • Kharchrod block in Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh received the first position at block level
  • The Chinnanur village of Tamil Nadu bagged the first prize a Gram Panchayat level

Under the Samudayik Shouchalya category, the following won the prizes

  • Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh were the best performing states under this category
  • Prayagraj and Bareilly won the best performing districts

Under the Gandagi Mukt Bharat Mission, Telangana and Haryana were awarded the first prizes.

Gandagi Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

It is a national level campaign that aims to clean all cities, urban and rural areas. It also creates awareness among people on proper sanitation and hygiene. It also creates awareness on clean roads and streets.

Swachh Sundar Samudayik Shauchalaya

It is a clean beautiful toilet contest. Under the mission toilets are decorated to pass on the message of their significance.

Swachh Bharat Mission

Currently, GoI is implementing Swachh Bharat Mission Phase II. This part of phase II focuses on open defecation free plus (ODF+). This includes solid and liquid management. This phase is to be implemented between 2020-21 and 2024-25. The funds allocated to this phase is Rs 1,40,881 crores.

The ODF+ will mainly focus on greywater management, fecal sludge management, plastic waste management and biodegradable solid waste management.

The phase will also continue to generate employment by creating infrastructure for compost pits, waste stabilisation ponds, soak pits, material recovery facilities.
