SVAMITVA Scheme: PM Modi Interacts with Beneficiaries
Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas or the SVAMITVA Scheme is a collaborative effort of the State Panchayati Raj Departments, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Survey of India and State Revenue Departments. On 6th October, 2021, PM Modi, in Madhya Pradesh, interacted with the beneficiaries of this scheme.
About SVAMITVA scheme
It is a scheme of the central sector. Ministry of Panchayati Raj implements this scheme. The program is implemented with the objective of granting property rights to residents in rural areas. The program will also allow villagers to use the property as a financial asset to obtain loans and other financial benefits in urban areas. The goal is also to demarcate inhabited lands in rural areas using the latest survey drone technology. Therefore, the program also strengthens the drone manufacturing ecosystem in India. The central government had launched the SVAMITVA program on 24th April, 2021 on the National Panchayati Raj Day.
Objective of this scheme
The program maps parcels of land in inhabited rural areas using drones and a continuously operating reference station (CORS). As part of the plan, the mapping in India will be carried out in phases over a four-year period, ie “2020 to 2024”. Also, this scheme seeks to determine property tax, maintain accurate land records for rural planning to reduce property disputes and also provide financial stability to rural citizens by allowing them to use their property as a financial asset to obtain loans, etc.
