Surender Kumar Bhagat appointed as DG of Railways Protection Force
Senior IPS officer Surender Kumar Bhagat was appointed as the Director General (DG) of Railways Protection Force (RPF).
His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In his new role, he will be responsible for protecting railway property and passengers.
He will succeed Mr R R verma who superannuated on 20th February 2016 and shall serve with the Railway Board till 30 June 2017 i.e. on the date of his superannuation.
He is a 1982 batch IPS officer of Uttarakhand cadre. Prior to this appointment he was working as Special Director General in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Western Sector, Jammu & Kashmir.
About Railway Protection Force (RPF)
- RPF is a security force entrusted with protecting railway passengers, passenger area and railway property of the Indian Railways
- It functions under the authority of Union Ministry of Railways. The strength of RPF is about 65,000.
