Sudan joins UAE, Bahrain in recognizing Israel

On October 23, 2020, Sudan became the third country to join UAE and Bahrain in recognizing Israel. The United States recently brokered pacts between Israel and UAE and Bahrain. Under the agreement, UAE and Bahrain agreed to recognise Israel as an independent state.

In September 2020, UAE, Bahrain and Israel signed the first peace agreement in 26 years. The agreement was called the Abraham Accord.

Key Facts

Egypt was the first country to recognise Israel. Following Egypt Jordan recognised Israel by establishing peace with the country. After 26 years following Jordan UAE signed a peace deal with Israel recently.  After UAE, Bahrain became the fourth country to sign a peace deal with Israel.

Creation of Israel

On May 14, 1948, the head of Jewish agency David Ben Gurion proclaimed the establishment of Israel. US President Harry Truman recognised the new state of Israel on the same day.

Balfour declaration 1917

The declaration favoured the establishment of a separate a Jewish National home in Palestine.

Later, in 1945 the United States assured the Arabs that it would not intervene in the issues of Arabs and Jews without consulting them.

However, after the formation of United Nations, Resolution was passed under which the Palestinian mandate (earlier under UK) was divided into Jewish state and Arab estate. This Resolution was called partition resolution.

Israel

Israel is the most advanced economy in Western Asia. It is ranked 16th in the Global competitiveness report of the world economic forum. Also it is ranked 54th in the ease of doing business index of the World bank it ranks fifth in high skilled employment. With Limited natural resources Israel has become largely self-sufficient through its advanced agricultural practices.

Israel has the second largest number of startup companies and has one of the lowest external debts in the developed the world.
