Status of Uranium supply from various countries

The Union Minister of State(Independent Charge) Development of North-Eastern Region and Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievance and Pensions, and Minister of State for Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitedra Singh in a written reply to a question at Rajya Sabha on Thursday, 12th December 2019 informed the status of total quantity of Uranium procurement from various countries to date:

• France- 300 metric tonnes(MT) of Uranium ore Concentration(UOC), Date of Contract- 17th December 2008.
• Russia- 2000 MT, Uranium in the form of natural UO2 pellets. Under 3 other contracts from Russia, 42, 58, and 56.67 MT of Uranium enriched UO2 pellets. Date of Contact- 11th February 2009.
• Canada- 3000 MT, Uranium in the form of UOC and an additional quantity of 2500 MT Uranium in the form of UOC under mutual agreement, Balance quantity of 1000 MT Uranium is scheduled to arrive this month and another 1000 MT Uranium in next year. Date of Contract- 15th April 2015
• India signed a contract with Uzbekistan’s M/s NMMC on 18th January 2019 for the supply of 1100 MT Uranium in the form of UOC, the supplies will start from 2022.
