State-Level Orange Festival begins in Manipur
The Chief Minister of Manipur, N.Biren Singh inaugurated a three-day State-level Orange Festival in Manipur on Monday, 16th December 2019. The festival is conducted at the district headquarters of Tamenglong, Tamenglong district is the largest producer of the fruit orange in Manipur.
The state-level festival is organized annually by the state government of Manipur under the sponsorship of the North Eastern Council to promote the production of the fruit and encourage its growers. More than 300 orange stalls are there at the festival this year. As a part of the festival, traditional games, cultural shows, a seminar for orange growers, and orange queen competition are being organized. The Chief Minister at the inauguration said that a separate fund would be kept in the state budget for organizing festivals related to fruit, and will also increase the prizes for participating orange growers from next year. The state government of Manipur has also requested from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India for the Geographical Indication Tagging certificate for Tamenglong Orange.
