Startup India Innovation Week

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) will be organizing the Startup India Innovation Week from January 10th to January 16th, 2023. This event is part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations and will take place in over 75 locations across the country.

“Startup India Innovation Week 2023 aims to engage startup ecosystem stakeholders across the nation during 10 January-16 January and spur the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation in India,” the Ministry of Commerce & Industry said in a release.

Events and Workshops

The Startup India Innovation Week will include a variety of events and workshops for entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, and other enablers. These will involve relevant stakeholders from the startup ecosystem, such as government officials, incubators, corporates, and investors. Some of the events and workshops that will be held during the week include:

  • Dedicated workshops for women entrepreneurs
  • Training for incubators
  • Mentorship workshops
  • Stakeholder round tables
  • Conferences
  • Capacity building workshops
  • Startup pitching sessions

Start-up India Scheme

The Start-up India scheme was launched on January 16, 2016 by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade with the goal of supporting and promoting start-ups in India. The scheme, which was inaugurated by the former finance minister Arun Jaitley, aims to remove restrictive state government policies such as the License Raj, foreign investment proposals, land permissions, and environmental clearances.

Three Pillars of the Start-up India Scheme

The Start-up India scheme is based on three pillars:

  1. Funding Support and Incentives: The scheme provides funding support and incentives to various start-ups in India.
  2. Industry-Academia Partnership and Incubation: The scheme promotes partnerships and incubation between industry and academia to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.
  3. Simplification and Handholding: The scheme simplifies processes and provides support to start-ups to help them navigate the early stages of operation.

Benefits of the Scheme

There are several key benefits to the Start-up India scheme, including:

  • Reduced patent registration fees
  • Improved Bankruptcy Code with a 90-day exit window
  • Freedom from inspections and capital gain tax during the first three years of operation
  • The creation of an innovation hub under the Atal Innovation Mission
  • Encouragement of entrepreneurship across India

National Startup Day

  • To commemorate National Startup Day on January 16th, the DPIIT will be hosting the felicitation ceremony for the winners of the National Startup Awards 2022.
  • This flagship initiative under the Startup India program recognizes and rewards the excellence demonstrated by startups and ecosystem enablers in a variety of sectors, sub-sectors, and categories.
