Soma Roy Burman appointed new Controller General of Accounts 

Government has appointed Soma Roy Burman, as 24th Controller General of Accounts (CGA) of India with effect from 1 December 2019. With this appointment she has now become 7th woman to hold this position.

About Soma Roy Burman

She is a 1986-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service Officer (ICAS). During her 3 decade long career, she held cadre positions at different levels in ministries including Information & Broadcasting, Home Affairs, Finance, Human Resource Development, Shipping, Road Transport & Highways and Industry.

Prior to being appointed CGA, she has served as Additional Controller General of Accounts (ACGA) in office of CGA, handling critical areas of accounting rules, financial reporting, data analytics, policy and reforms, cash and budget management.

About Controller General of Accounts (CGA)

CGA of India is principal advisor to Union Government on accounting matters. It is central accounting and reporting agency for government and is responsible for establishing and managing a sound management accounting system. It is also responsible for preparation and submission of accounts of Union Government and exchequer control and internal audits. It also heads Indian Civil Accounts Organisation (ICAO) under Department of Expenditure, Union Ministry of Finance. CGA is assisted by officers of Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS).
