Simlipal biosphere reserve

Simlipal biosphere reserve is a 5,569 sq km area comprising of the Simlipal national park cum tiger reserve along with its adjoining areas. It is located in the eastern end of the Eastern Ghats, in Odisha. The name ‘Simlipal’ is derived from ‘Simul’ meaning silk cotton tree. Sal is the most common tree found here. About 94 species of orchids are found in the area. Recently, the week-long forest fire in Simlipal was brought under control.
