Second Edition of Eat Right Mela inaugurated
On December 27, 2019, Union Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the second edition of eat right mela in New Delhi. The mela is an effort to encourage citizens on having a healthy diet and reduce the disease burden in the country. The theme of the event is
Theme: Healthier Diets
The event was organized by the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) along with National Association of Street Vendors of India.
The first Eat Right Mela was launched in New Delhi in December, 2018.
Highlights
The Mela will stress upon the importance of healthy diet and also will help avoiding wrong choices of food. It aims at providing complete food experience exhibiting healthy diets and showcasing innovations. The mela is also joined by Incredible India and Fit India. The other pavilion to be showed in the mela is FSAN (Food Safety and Applied Nutrition).
At the event the minister launched “The Purple Book” that provides guidelines for hospitals. The book focuses on conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, cancer.
Eat Right Movement
The mela is a part of the Eat Right Movement. The movement is aligned with Ayushman Bharat, POSHAN Abhiyaan, Swachh Bharat Mission and Anemia Mukt Bharat. It was launched by the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India). The movement is significant as there is a need to increase awareness on preventive health for all. It also aims to reduce increasing burden of non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, widespread deficiencies in vitamins and minerals.
