Second Convalescent Plasma Bank opens up in Delhi

The 2nd convalescent plasma bank has been inaugurated in the national capital by the Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal and the Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia, at the LNJP Hospital. The first such plasma bank was started at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) IN Vasant Kunj, South Delhi.

What is Plasma Therapy?

It is an experiential way of treating the COVID-19 disease in which the plasma from the blood of a recovered COVID-19 patient is transfused to an affected patient so that the patient recovers at the earliest. The government has come out with certain guidelines regarding donation of plasma by the recovered patients:

  • The person can only donate plasma after at least 28 days from the completion of his treatment.
  • The person can re-donate plasma after 14 days of the first donation.
  • Persons aged between 18-50 years without co-morbidities and weighing more than 50 kg can only go for plasma donation.
  • Interested persons can call on the helpline number 1031 to get themselves registered for plasma donation. A message can also be sent to 8800007722 on Whatsapp for registration purpose.
